Job Summary: Software Engineering Intern – CI/CD Pipeline Development

We are actively seeking a highly motivated Software Engineering Intern to play a crucial role in supporting the design, development, and enhancement of GitHub-based Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines. This position is vital for critical infrastructure and software development programs across Battelle.

Working collaboratively alongside experienced Software Engineers, DevOps Engineers, and various project teams, the intern will contribute significantly to automating build, test, deployment, and release management processes. Key technologies and tools leveraged will include GitHub Actions, artifact repositories (Artifactory/jFrog), and internal tooling. The application deadline for this exciting opportunity is February 13, 2026.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, manage, and support robust CI pipelines, specifically focusing on version control and GitHub Actions.
  • Deploy and manage critical build artifact repositories for various technologies, including Docker, .NET, and ASP.NET, utilizing tools like Artifactory/jFrog and GitHub Packages.
  • Automate processes for efficient and reliable deployment, testing, and release management.
  • Collaborate effectively with developers to continuously improve software quality and development workflows.
  • Train other staff members in the adoption of best practices for CI/CD and related tooling.
  • Implement robust security controls directly into the CI/CD pipeline to ensure system integrity.
  • Monitor the health of pipelines and meticulously analyze metrics for optimization and continuous improvement.
  • Perform needs assessment and thoroughly evaluate new technologies to enhance our capabilities.
  • Engage external vendors when necessary to address and solve complex problems or bugs.
  • Provide occasional after-hours support as required to maintain operational continuity.

Key Qualifications (Mandatory Requirements):

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated career interest or strong desire for DEVOPS, CI/CD, and developing automations.
  • Must be a self-starter, highly adaptable, and able to dynamically change focus while consistently meeting deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Possess excellent communication skills and a proven ability to work well in a team-oriented setting.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with the unwavering ability to obtain and maintain an Active DOD Secret Security Clearance, and also the ability to obtain Department of Homeland Security and Transportation Security Administration Suitability.

Preferred Qualifications (Highly Desired Skills and Experience):

  • Prior experience with installing, configuring, operating, and monitoring CI/CD pipeline tools.
  • Practical experience with GitHub and GitHub Actions.
  • Familiarity and experience with artifact and binary management tools such as Artifactory or Sonatype Nexus Repository Manager.
  • Hands-on experience with automation tools like Jenkins, Rundeck, or Ansible.
  • Experience working with Linux containers, specifically Docker.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C#, Python, or Java.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues effectively.
  • Strong ability to effectively document all technical designs and solutions clearly and concisely.
