Job Description Summary

The Financial Intern will play a crucial role in contributing to strategic research on federal and state funding programs and market opportunities, while simultaneously providing essential support to core financial planning and analysis (FP&A) functions. This dynamic role involves preparing vital management reports, assisting with critical monthly close activities, and conducting in-depth analysis of budgets, forecasts, and performance variances. The intern will also be instrumental in the development of Power BI dashboards, supporting executive reporting, identifying opportunities for process improvements, and completing various ad hoc financial analyses.

Job Responsibilities

  • Reporting & Analytics: Assist in preparing critical reports and analytics designed to provide management with the necessary information for sound financial business decisions.
  • Financial Reporting & Close Support: Participate actively in the consolidation of the annual plan, monthly results, and forecast requirements, including related reporting to Heico corporate accounting; assist with essential monthly close-related activities.
  • Financial Analysis: Analyze and interpret diverse financial documents, including financial plans, budgets, profit and loss statements, and other financial reports as assigned.
  • Variance Analysis: Conduct thorough analysis of variances from planned and forecasted results, promptly informing management about any inconsistencies or infractions.
  • Performance Variance Deep Dive: Analyze monthly results and provide detailed feedback on key variances relating specifically to sales volume, price, mix, sales reserves, rebates, discounts, and freight.
  • Executive Reporting: Assist with creating and submitting comprehensive monthly executive packages for senior Heico leadership.
  • Data Visualization & Power BI: Utilize Power Platform tools to build effective analysis, specifically assisting in the development of Power BI reports and interactive dashboards through various data sources.
  • Strategic Research: Participate in crucial platform research projects, investigating import dynamics, federal and state funding programs, and analyzing available and serviceable market opportunities.
  • Process Improvement: Proactively identify opportunities for continual improvement through enhanced reporting and analysis methodologies.
  • Ad Hoc Analysis & Support: Perform ad hoc financial analysis as requested and fulfill other related duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and responsiveness.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or current enrollment in one of these programs.
  • Experience: Prior internship or work experience in an accounting or finance role is highly desired. Demonstrated interest and experience in research.
  • Technical Skills: Strong Excel skills and proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
  • Core Competencies: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication abilities.
  • Personal Attributes: Excellent work ethic and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

  • Type: Onsite, paid internship.
  • Hours: Approximately 30 hours per week, with typical work hours Monday through Friday, starting at 8:00 AM.
