The Opportunity: Research & Applied Psychometrics Intern (Summer 2026)
The Innovative Learning and Assessment Solutions (ILAS) division at Ascend Learning is actively seeking bright and ambitious Research & Applied Psychometrics Interns for the summer of 2026. This is a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the practical application of psychometrics within the critical allied health, nursing, and fitness industries. As a valued member of our expert team, you will collaborate closely with experienced psychometricians, contributing directly to the research and psychometric integrity of our operational testing products.
What You Will Do
As a Research & Applied Psychometrics Intern, you will gain invaluable hands-on experience through a blend of operational work and a dedicated research project, all under the direct guidance of an experienced mentor. Your contributions will span several vital areas:
- Actively participate in the design and development of cutting-edge examinations.
- Engage in exam security protocols and forensic analysis to ensure fairness and integrity.
- Contribute to job task analysis and the meticulous design of exam blueprints.
- Assist in the crucial process of standard setting for various assessments.
- Explore and implement advanced AI and machine learning models within product development.
- Support and conduct efficacy research to validate the impact of our learning solutions.
- Develop and refine your skills in research, psychometrics, data forensics, and AI applications.
Where You Will Work
This internship is a fully remote position, open to candidates located anywhere in the United States. You will contribute to our team remotely throughout the Summer 2026 term, enjoying the flexibility and autonomy of a distributed work environment.
What We’re Looking For
Education & Experience:
- Currently enrolled in a relevant doctoral program such as educational measurement, psychometrics, quantitative psychology, industrial/organizational psychology, statistics, experimental psychology, or computer science/machine learning.
- Must have successfully completed at least two years of coursework toward your doctoral program prior to the commencement of the internship.
Key Skills & Abilities:
- Demonstrated proficiency in statistical software and programming languages such as SAS, R, Python, or WINSTEPS is highly recommended and will be a significant asset.
- Possess excellent presentation skills, coupled with strong organizational abilities, effective time management, and a meticulous attention to details and deadlines.
- Ability to compose compelling research proposals suitable for submission to peer-reviewed conferences, with mentorship and supervision.
- Proven ability to work effectively and collaboratively as a member of a remote team, fostering strong communication and productivity from any location.
