Job Description: Internship in Intelligent Customer Service NLP/ML

This internship position is for talented individuals looking to join ByteDance in 2026, offering significant industry exposure and hands-on experience within TikTok’s global e-commerce business. The internship spans 12 weeks and aims to help students develop fundamental skills and explore potential career paths. Interns will benefit from a vibrant blend of social events and enriching development workshops, applying their knowledge in real-world scenarios to build a strong foundation for personal and professional growth.

The team responsible for this role focuses on developing cutting-edge NLP/ML algorithms and strategies. Their objectives include improving user consumption experience, inspiring merchants’ service quality and revenue, and building a fair and flourishing ecosystem on the E-commerce Platform. Specifically, this team is responsible for the algorithms powering Intelligent Customer Service.

Internship Responsibilities:

Interns will be involved in various key areas of NLP/ML, including:
• Applying Large Language Models (LLMs) to a diverse range of multilingual and multimodal scenarios pertinent to e-commerce business.
• Establishing and developing a generative-based AI chatbot designed to resolve post-sale issues and facilitate pre-sale interactive consultations.
• Engaging in text generation tasks, which include creating product titles and descriptions, summarizing dialogues, and automating replies for emails and tickets.
• Contributing to machine translation efforts, specifically optimizing translation quality across numerous scenarios and language pairs within the e-commerce context, alongside researching related cutting-edge technologies.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
• Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Software Development, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
• Demonstrated experience in software development using at least one of the following programming languages: C++, Python, Go, or Java.
• Possession of strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Practical experience in relevant business scenarios is preferred.
• Must be able to commit to a 12-week full-time work period during Summer 2026.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Prior experience with NLP (Natural Language Processing) and LLM (Large Language Model) technologies.
• Proficiency in utilizing at least one mainstream deep learning framework, such as TensorFlow or PyTorch, coupled with an understanding of distributed training, distillation acceleration, and other implementation methods.
• Awareness of specific processing methods and optimization experience concerning domain adaptation, small sample construction, text mining, unsupervised/semi-supervised learning, and similar issues.
• Familiarity with commonly used machine learning and deep learning algorithms, a fundamental understanding of network model structures (e.g., DNN, LSTM, CNN), and text representation methods (e.g., LDA, Word2Vec, ELMo, GPT, BERT). Practical experience in deep learning training and reasoning model tuning is also highly valued.
• Experience in large-scale text data processing or cleaning, potentially utilizing tools such as Hadoop, Spark, Hive, or Flink.

Compensation and Benefits:
The hourly rate for this Campus Intern position is $42.75. Interns receive day-one access to health insurance, life insurance, and wellbeing benefits. They are also entitled to 10 paid holidays per year and paid sick time (56 hours if hired in the first half of the year, 40 hours if hired in the second half).
