We are seeking a dedicated Rombauer Viticulture Intern ready to make a significant impact in the vineyard and beyond. In this role, you will be instrumental in collecting and analyzing data from our estate and grower properties across Napa, Sonoma, Monterey, Amador, and El Dorado Counties, with a primary focus on Napa and Sonoma.
You will work independently in the field, applying your strong organizational skills and attention to detail to monitor vine health and directly support our commitment to wine quality. Reporting directly to the Senior Viticulturist and Grower Relations Representative, your responsibilities will include:
- Scouting for pests and disease.
- Collecting soil, water, and plant tissue samples.
- Contributing to irrigation recommendations using advanced technologies.
- Tracking vine phenology.
- Assisting with harvest activities.
- Collaborating closely with vineyard and winemaking teams to connect data with outcomes.
- Entering and analyzing data, and supporting yield estimates.
- Occasionally operating a forklift at winery properties (after completing on-site certification).

What You’ll Need (Required Qualifications)
- Education: Currently enrolled at a college or university and working towards a Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree OR have obtained a Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in the following areas: School of Life Sciences, School of Agricultural Sciences, or Ag Business Degree. (Social sciences degrees, such as psychology, sociology, etc., are not eligible for this internship).
- Availability: Must be available for the entire duration of the internship program area(s) of interest.
- Driving Requirements:
- Required to have a valid driver’s license, a safe driving record, and reliable vehicle at the time of hire.
- This position will undergo a motor vehicle check (MVR) to confirm a history of safe and responsible driving.
- If needed, candidate must obtain the appropriate state driver’s license based on the position’s location within 30 days of hire.
- Must have reliable transportation and be required to drive to and from varying ranch locations up to 80% of the time.
- Physical Requirements: Required to lift and move up to 40 lbs, when necessary.
- Certifications: Required to complete on-site forklift certification.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office and Excel at a basic level.
- Schedule Flexibility: Requires availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays when necessary.
- Core Competencies: Strong applied technical skills and analytical problem-solving skills; good oral and written communication skills.
- Additional Travel: Required to travel to company offices, sites, and/or meeting locations for onboarding, training, meetings, and events for development, department needs, and business delivery up to 5% of the time.
- Age: Required to be 18 years or older.
How You’ll Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)
- Education: Junior or Senior class standing at a college or university and working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Plant Science, Ag Business, Horticulture, Viticulture, or Enology. OR working towards a Master’s degree in the school of Life Sciences, Engineering, Agricultural Sciences or Business.
- Interpersonal Skills: Skilled at working with individuals from diverse and varied backgrounds.
- Industry Knowledge:
- General viticulture knowledge.
- Grape pest and disease identification.
- Technical Skills: Computer skills including Statistical Analysis (MiniTab, SAS), GPS Mapping, and ArcGIS at a basic level.
- Attitude: Strong interest in learning opportunities and building skills.
