This opportunity is for a Student – Internship role within Engineering, specifically in Thermal & Fluid Systems, offered by Cummins Inc.

• Core Function: The primary purpose of this role is to analyze Cummins’ products through simulation and physical testing to develop system-level optimized solutions. This involves applying foundational knowledge in thermal and fluid sciences to assigned tasks to integrate products and systems that meet both customer and regulatory requirements.

• Areas of Focus: The analysis and development will span various critical systems, including:
• IC engine & electric power systems
• Fuel & air systems
• Filtration & aftertreatment systems
• Battery & fuel cell electric systems

• Key Knowledge Areas Applied: Successful candidates will apply their knowledge in:
• Fluid mechanics
• Heat transfer
• Thermodynamics

• Impact and Responsibilities: In these applied science positions, individuals will make an impact by:
• Analytically investigating product, system, and/or technology problems and recommending actions for resolution or optimization.
• Utilizing fundamental Physics to understand causal mechanisms and assist in problem resolution.
• Actively collaborating with stakeholders and colleagues, using analysis results to support project advancement.
• Participating in problem resolution for moderately to highly complex components, products, or systems, often involving technical complexity and ambiguity, with accountability to the project team.
• Applying principles of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, energy conversion systems, and heat transfer to real-world problems.
• Engaging in product problem-solving and product failure mode avoidance.
• Leveraging data analysis results to drive design and performance optimization.
• Demonstrating effective use of industry-standard and Cummins-specific tools and software.
• Considering system requirements and demonstrating a system thinking approach.

• Tools Utilized: The role will involve using various tools related to thermal and fluid sciences, such as:
• Fluent (ANSYS Simulation ~ Simulink)
• GT-Suite
• Boost
• Converge (CFD Software)
• Emissions data system
• Hardware in the loop testing
• MATLAB (with In-House developed plugins)

• Management Aspect: This role will not include management of people but could involve the coordination of work amongst employees.

• Education Requirements:
• Degree Programs Considered: Bachelor’s, Master’s, PhD
• Major Programs Typically Considered: All Engineering Majors

• 2026 Monthly Salary Range by Degree Level:
• Bachelor’s: $3,900 – $5,000
• Master’s: $6,000
• PhD: $7,300

• Internship Program Criteria:
• Must be a full-time enrolled student pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree at an accredited U.S. college/university.
• Minimum 2.5 or above GPA preferred.
• Must be able to complete a minimum of 4-6 months or a maximum of 12 months commitment.
• Must be able to complete 40 hours per week.
• Willingness to learn from others on the job.
• Must be currently residing within the continental U.S.

• Compensation and Benefits: Base salary rate commensurate with experience.
