Job Description

Overall College Programs (Intern/Co-op)

Southwire’s College Programs are designed to provide early career professionals with valuable experience, bridging formal learning with productive work to facilitate a smooth transition from academia to the professional world. The programs aim to offer meaningful, project-based work that directly builds upon classroom knowledge, providing “real world” applications of academic studies. Students receive helpful feedback and coaching, with consideration for employment after graduation. Each intern or co-op is assigned a project at the beginning of their term and is responsible for developing a timeline, providing progress updates, and delivering a final presentation at a senior leadership expo. All new interns and co-ops are required to begin their assignments in the summer rotation.

Assignment Duration: Intern assignments typically last 10-12 weeks, while co-op assignments are generally 16-18 weeks.
Work Experience: Students will be assigned a project and have opportunities to present their work, collaborate on other projects, and work with talented peers and inspirational leaders, many of whom started their careers at Southwire as interns or co-ops.
Developmental Experience: The program offers a robust developmental experience including immersive onboarding and offboarding, an assigned mentor, networking opportunities, organized events, activities, and community service/volunteer initiatives.
Impact: Interns and co-ops have the chance to impact the future of the organization within a world-class program community.
Full-Time Employment: Rising senior interns and co-ops are considered for full-time employment opportunities upon graduation.

Specific Role: Internal Controls Intern

Location: Atlanta Battery
Shift/Duration: May 18th – August 7th
Pay Rate: $17.00 – $23.00

Job Summary/Objective:
The Internal Controls Intern will play a crucial role in strengthening Southwire’s internal control environment. This involves assisting with risk assessments, process reviews, and compliance monitoring. The internship offers hands-on experience in evaluating control effectiveness, identifying gaps, and recommending improvements, while providing exposure to key business processes. The intern will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to understand operational workflows and contribute to initiatives aimed at enhancing governance, risk management, and compliance within the organization.

Key Responsibilities:
• Assist in documenting and reviewing internal control processes across various departments.
• Support the execution of risk assessments and control testing activities.
• Help identify control gaps and recommend remediation strategies.
• Participate in walkthroughs of business processes to understand control points and risks.
• Contribute to the development of process flowcharts and control matrices.
• Assist in preparing reports and presentations for internal stakeholders.
• Collaborate with teams across finance, operations, and compliance to gather insights and validate controls.
• Support internal audit and compliance initiatives as needed.
• Perform administrative tasks related to documentation and data management.

Qualifications:
• Minimum 2.5 GPA.
• Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Reliable transportation to and from work.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Strong organization, planning, and analytical skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) or other relevant tools.
