About the Job: Internal Audit Intern
Austin Industries offers an internal audit internship program designed to provide interns with exposure to numerous aspects of the construction industry. The program emphasizes collaboration with accounting teams across various operating divisions under the Austin Industries umbrella. Interns will gain hands-on experience by assisting with ongoing audits and performing risk-based testing to evaluate internal controls and management assertions. This internship program was recognized as one of the Top 100 Internship Programs of 2024 by WayUp and Yello.
Program Details:
• This is a paid, 12-week, full-time internship program.
• Start Date: Monday, May 18, 2026
• End Date: Friday, August 7, 2026
• Location: Corporate headquarters in Dallas, TX (Uptown area).
• Interns will have opportunities to participate in various social and volunteer events with fellow employee-owners.

Internal Audit Intern Duties:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
• Assisting with complex audits of major construction and maintenance projects throughout the organization. The goal is to assess the effectiveness of management’s processes and compliance with established policies.
• Completing assigned audit program sections.
• Developing workpapers and logically presenting detailed testing attributes.
• Conducting interviews, documenting interview results, updating workpapers and audit program steps, and concluding on control assessments.
• Meeting with project personnel at job sites to complete assigned work, including touring job sites and analyzing construction performance.
• Travel approximately 10% of the time.
Supervision and Review:
• Each internal audit intern is assigned a supervisor who is a professional with expertise and educational background in accounting and internal audit.
• Interns can expect a preliminary meeting with their supervisor to discuss goals, expectations, and desired outcomes for the internship.
• A review will be conducted upon completion of the internship to communicate successes and learning outcomes.
• The supervisor will also complete any necessary paperwork for the intern’s school or university.
Education And Experience Requirements:
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
• Must be an active junior or senior college student working toward a bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, with a concentration in auditing.
• Targeted graduation date between December 2026 and December 2027.
• Must be able to work up to 40 hours per week.
• Must be able to commute onsite to the assigned location in Dallas, TX.
• Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Must have the ability to think analytically, present ideas professionally, and work in project teams.
