This job description is for a Machine Learning Engineer Intern at DoorDash.

About The Team:
The team is focused on building the world’s most reliable on-demand logistics engine for delivery. They are looking for ML Engineer interns to join a fast-growing engineering team to help develop a 24×7 global infrastructure system that powers DoorDash’s three-sided marketplace of consumers, merchants, and dashers.

About The Role:
As an ML Engineer intern, you will be involved in:
• Tackling new challenges in machine learning and artificial intelligence.
• Conducting research that can be applied across DoorDash engineering teams.
• Engaging in external collaborations and mentoring.
• Performing research in various areas including: Auction, Game theory, Recommender systems, Ranking, AdTech, Computer Vision, Causal Inference, and Big data analytics.
• The internship is a 12-week fall program (September-December) with a potential extension to a spring internship.
• Internships are offered in San Francisco, Sunnyvale, or Seattle offices.

What You Will Do (Responsibilities):
Use cutting-edge research in ML/AI, NLP, RecSys, Ranking, Computer Vision, Causal Inference, Ad Tech, Graph analysis to solve real-world problems across various DoorDash experiences like discovery, ads, forecasting, fulfillment, and search.
Contribute and execute on research ideas that can be applied to and improve the product experience at DoorDash.
Collect, analyze, and synthesize findings from data to build relevant ML models.
Write clean, efficient, and sustainable code.

What We’re Looking For (Qualifications):
• Currently working towards a Master’s degree in Computer Science, ML, NLP, Statistics, Information Sciences, or a related field.
• Expected graduation between Winter 2026 & Summer 2027.
Mastery of at least one systems language (Java, C++, Python, Kotlin, GoLang) or one ML framework (Tensorflow, Pytorch, MLFlow).
Experience in research and in solving analytical problems.
• A strong communicator and team player.
• A passion for applied ML and the DoorDash product.
Ideally, prior publications in machine learning, AI, data science, data analytics, statistics, or related technical fields.

Compensation & Benefits:
• The internship is 12 weeks long.
• The weekly pay range is $2,200 USD. This pay is determined based on job-related factors, including education, work location, and market conditions.
• In addition to base pay, interns are eligible for both a housing stipend and a relocation stipend.
