Job description

This is a Culinary Internship/Externship Opportunity at SusieCakes, designed for individuals currently enrolled in a baking & pastry program or a culinary-focused certification program. It is a semester-long, hands-on program structured to meet culinary program requirements, help participants develop their skills, and provide valuable insight into business operations while offering the opportunity to connect with the Executive Team. Important Note: Housing is not provided for this program.

The internship involves assisting in culinary operations, with tasks primarily aligned with a Pastry Baker Assistant role, managing and producing a wide variety of baked goods alongside other culinary team members.

Responsibilities:
• Manage production and prepare a wide variety of standard and custom baked goods according to established recipes.
• Efficiently mix, bake, build, decorate, and inscribe products as applicable.
• Ensure all food is prepared, handled, and stored in strict adherence to all required food safety code standards.
• Operate and maintain bakery equipment safely and effectively.

Qualifications:
Experience: One year of previous culinary experience is preferred, with strong preference for pastry/baking experience.
Flexibility: Ability to work in cross-functional roles, including both front-of-house and back-of-house as needed.
Transportation: Must have reliable transportation.
Education: A culinary degree is preferred, but a High school diploma or GED is required.
Language Skills: Must be able to speak, read, and write English.
Availability: Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.

Physical Requirements:
• Frequent walking, kneeling, bending, and reaching overhead.
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to lift, move, and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to taste products for quality assurance, including but not limited to buttercreams, cakes and cupcakes/batter, cookie dough, and other recipes as assigned.
