Job Description
Job Title: Pharmacy Intern (implied by qualifications)
Job Summary:
This role involves assisting with medication preparation, repacking, and dispensing, all under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. The position supports medication reconciliation and clinical monitoring to ensure medications are safe and effective for patients. Adherence to state and federal regulations is mandatory. The individual reports directly to the Director of Pharmacy.
Essential Functions:
• Assists the Pharmacist in the preparation and dispensing of medication.
• Prepares and delivers medications to patient care units as appropriate.
• Restocks and manages expiration dating for inventory within automated medication dispensing machines.
• Orders and properly stores medications.
• Unit doses medications that are not prepackaged, ensuring proper preparation.
• Processes records of medication dispensed to patients, computes charges, and generates required computer reports, including performing backup procedures correctly.
• Monitors drug therapy for appropriateness under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
• Provides and documents clinical interventions, therapy recommendations, and other clinical activities in accordance with department policy, procedure, and state regulations.
• Participates in the Medication Reconciliation activities performed by the Pharmacy Department.
• Prepares sterile and non-sterile compounds in adherence to USP standards.
• Maintains positive relationships with all customers.
• Ensures compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations:
• Possession of good math and science skills.
• Travel requirement: 0% of time.
• Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English.
• Requires good and regular attendance.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education:
• Must be actively enrolled in or a graduate of an ACPE-accredited college of pharmacy, or possess FPEGC certification.
Licenses/Certification:
• Required Pharmacy Intern Licensure as mandated by the state.
• BCLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
Experience:
• A minimum of 1 year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a hospital pharmacy setting is preferred.
• Basic understanding of the role and use of computers in processing prescription orders, with minimum word processing skills.
