About the Job

The position is for a Platform Development Engineer Intern within Cirrus Logic’s Platform Development (PlatDev) Team, which is part of the Product Validation and Test organization.

Role and Team Focus:
The PlatDev Team is crucial for supporting the hardware/software infrastructure development for both the Validation Engineering and Product Test Engineering (PTE) organizations. As an intern, your primary focus will be on developing hardware design and methodologies for test hardware platforms. This includes a range of responsibilities from developing tooling for FPGA build methodologies and FPGA design to MCU firmware development and general platform development tasks.

Internship Experience:
This internship offers a valuable opportunity to collaborate with experienced engineers, contribute to solving real-world challenges, participate in product development, and gain practical hands-on experience within a fast-paced and supportive work environment. The internship is scheduled for the Summer 2026 semester, spanning 12-14 weeks with a full-time schedule.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with FPGA engineers to understand their specific tooling requirements for various FPGA designs.
• Develop Python tools aimed at generating Register-Transfer Level (RTL) code and software collateral, as well as automating the FPGA build flow processes.
• Perform FPGA RTL design for a variety of hardware blocks.
• Develop and enhance functionality within test platform subsystems, such as LCD display drivers, JTAG, and SPI/I2C chips.
• Create Python-based tests specifically for board screening purposes to ensure hardware functionality.
• Incorporate end-user feedback to enhance and improve tool features and functionality.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s (BS) or Master’s (MS) degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
• Must be a minimum of a junior-level undergraduate student with a focus in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
• Possess coursework or practical experience with analog, digital, and power electronics circuits.
• Have coursework or experience with software programming and scripting languages, including Python, C/C++, among others.
• Demonstrated aptitude in understanding system-level interactions of various industry interface standards, such as I2C, SPI, USB, I2S, TDM, or high-speed control/data buses.
• Exhibit self-motivation, excellent problem-solving abilities, and keen attention to detail, particularly in understanding the complex interactions between silicon, board, and software components.
• Possess a highly dynamic, energetic, and driven personality, coupled with excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work effectively across different functional groups and organizations.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications:

• Prior experience working with FPGA design or FPGA hardware.
• Experience working with PCB design and tools.

Work Arrangement:
While Cirrus Logic typically follows a hybrid work schedule of 2+ days in-office, interns should anticipate being in the office more frequently, potentially up to 5 days per week, depending on specific business needs and team preferences. Interns are required to be based within commutable distance of the specified work location or be willing to relocate prior to the start of their internship.

Diversity and Inclusion Statement:
Cirrus Logic is committed to selecting the most qualified applicants for any opening. The company values and respects diverse approaches, ideas, and points of view. Employment decisions are made solely based on job-related criteria, without discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, protected veteran or disabled status, genetic information, or any other classification protected by applicable law.
